Joe Cool on the Pacific

I decided that today is the day where I will start my countdown for the journey of my life. Obviously the journey of my life is my marriage and love to Birgit as also my family. There is no doubt. But what comes up is a physical journey that I dreamed of when I was 14. I want to cross an Ocean. And I chose a big one, the mighty Pacific. 29 days to go. It is hard to believe when looking back at my first interview with Dana in September 2017 for the 17/18 Clipper Round the World race. But I could not do that race, could not get the trainings organized. And now two years and a bit passed by. It is the time to stop thinking big picture and think about details. How do I pack my Dale of Norway? Which caddy will bring my Ocean Sleepware bag to the boat (just kidding)? How to I mange to stay below 20kg of gear? What shoes will replace my crocs that I planned to take with me not to piss off skipper? I have almost all of my gear in house. Only Ski googles are missing. I had my final medical check done two weeks ago. I increased my life insurance in case Neptune bites my ass. I transferred all decisions and responsibilities to my wife yesterday. Now I can focus on packing, weather studies, fitness and obviously the fare well party. 29 days left, it will be here fast. I am so excited. But I am also a bit worried. Leaving everything behind for two month, what can happen, will everybody deal with it. It is selfish to go, yes, but I will hopefully come back with a ton of experience. And I do have the feeling that the radical downsizing of life to the minimum, eat sleep, sail, repeat will do me good. I am really getting saturated by all the bad news, wrong principles and goals that mankind has to offer. So to sail away and find out what it really means to be 19 guys in a boat on their own for 37 days is my medicine. All the left behinds, forgive me please. 29 days to say all the good byes that need to be said……
